President - Izzy Woolrych
1. What do you study?
Applied Psychology
2. What're your first and favourite memories of LUT?
My first memory of joining LUT was telling a current member that I did
stage management and her running around the table and hugging me..!
My favourite memory is probably the delirious week that was the
Shakespeare Marathon... nothing quite like a sleep-deprived week of
theatre in the pouring rain and freezing cold with your closest friends!
3. What do you find most challenging about theatre?
Trying to do paperwork for three shows simultaneously can be quite
challenging. I enjoy it, but it's probably the most complicated thing that
I do on a regular basis.
4. What project have you most enjoyed working on with LUT?
I loved the Shakespeare Marathon, but my favourite project has to have been 'The Producers', which was the musical I directed last year. I was absolutely blown away by the energy and enthusiasm of my cast on the final night and that's a pretty special feeling as a director!
5. How would your best friend describe you?
I asked two of them and their responses made me laugh, so I thought I'd share them both with you:
"Finally a person who has worse functioning organs than myself. When she isn't avoiding the many foods that could kill her, she is usually helping others. Being kind, caring and avoiding her own problems comes second nature to her, which makes her the perfect person to go to if you need to talk. Throughout everything she is dependable, encouraging and the only person who believed I could sing louder than a live orchestra" - Dan
"Izzy is the sort of person who can be described as one of a kind, only it's actually true. She's incredibly passionate, and one of the most hardworking individuals that I've ever met. She's wonderful and caring and makes everyone's lives better, (and more organised) just by virtue of knowing her. Compassionate, funny, and she makes excellent cookies. Nothing is surprising, she's literally Wonder Woman and if she started flying I'd just be like 'yeah makes sense'. Of course, she won't choose to publish this unless I put some bad things in too. Her cat hates me. That's literally the only downside." - Rachel
6. What’s your favourite colour?
Turquoise... I know Rachel will have made some kind of joke about this...
7. What do you work towards in your free time?
To be honest, the concept of free time is completely alien to me (I spend way too much time doing theatre, or working), but if I did have free time, I'd spend it relaxing with my friends, working towards learning Dutch or my Musical Theatre diploma.
8. What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I've written a book. It's an interesting fact, but the book is never seeing the light of day.
9. What is your personal philosophy?
Use your own experiences to help, encourage, motivate or inspire other people. Be open-minded, supportive of the people around you and lead by example. Don't let opportunities pass you by, be willing to work hard and remember that you never know as much as you think you do!
10. Where do you want to travel to?
Literally everywhere, I adore travelling. I'd love to go to Africa next, or India, Thailand or Brazil... the list goes on!
11. Can you play any instruments?
Flute, piano, guitar and I sing... but give me any instrument and I'll try!
12. If you could invite 4 people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would they be?
David Attenborough, William Shakespeare, Lin Manuel Miranda and Leonardo da Vinci.
13. Best advice anyone has given you?
"Don't let your past destroy, deter or define you, only strengthen you. Your life will turn out how you choose to live it, so be yourself, make every moment count and never forget the things you are grateful for."
14. What was the last thing you heard/saw that made you laugh out loud?
I laughed reading everyone else's responses to these questions!
15. Do you cook?
I absolutely love cooking! I find cooking/baking really relaxing and I enjoy making new recipes too.
16. What’s your favourite recipe?
Unfortunately I can't really eat them, but I've been told that my chocolate brownie and cookie recipes are really good?
17. Have you ever been told you look like a celebrity? Who? Do you agree?
Yes. When I was 12, I looked like a carbon copy of Lindsay Lohan in 'The Parent Trap'... that's now much less of a similarity! I also get told I look like Emma Stone, but I don't really see that?
18. What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket list”?
It's pretty clichéd, but travelling around the world. I've also always wanted to go skydiving!
19. What is your favourite TV show?
Probably Game of Thrones at the moment, but Grey's Anatomy and Brooklyn 99 are close!
20. What did you want to be when you grow up? Has that changed now?
When I was really young I wanted to be a singer, then a dancer/actress. When I got a bit older, I wanted to be a doctor or paramedic, but now I'd like to be a clinical psychologist. I'm currently hoping to specialise in adolescent mental health because I think it's a really important area that needs a lot of focus and support.
