Publicity and Marketing - Rachel Roberts

1. What do you study?
Law

2. What’s your favourite memory of LUT?
My favourite memory of LUT was being (somehow,
miraculously) cast in The Reality Asylum. It was an amazing
experience, with a couple of fabulous directors, and a
wonderfully talented cast. Nothing quite beats the feeling of
being trusted to act in a play written by members of the
society, and I'm incredibly grateful for the experience.

3. What do you find most challenging about theatre?

Pushing aside the self-consciousness and taking on a part
with everything you've got.

4. What project have you most enjoyed working on with LUT?
Aside from RA, probably taking part in the Shakespeare Marathon. I've repressed more of that week due to intense sleep deprivation, but I've been told I thoroughly enjoyed it. Eddie Izzard was also there, although that may have been a hallucination.

5. How would your best friend describe you?
Right see, so I asked her and this is what she wrote: "She's a sarcastic, cynical arsehole who makes bad puns and calls people "pal" all the time, but beneath the tough exterior, she's a'ight I guess (substitute the last 4 words for: "she's actually one of the most genuine, honest, intelligent, kind and trustworthy people I know... even if she doesn't always believe it and acts like a stubborn arsehole")". I totally didn't make the last part up, I swear.

6. Who is your role model, and why?

Lista Cannon, the first woman to be dual qualified as a lawyer in the US and UK.

7. What’s your favourite colour (and why)?

It's a solid tie between duck egg blue and dusky turquoise. They remind me of Izzy's sparkling personality.

8. What do you work towards in your free time?

I've honestly never heard of the concept of free time. But if I did know what you were talking about, and did have anything vaguely resembling that, I'd say there's nothing better than just taking a moment and watching films with friends. Or maybe frowning at puppies.

9. What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I've sung at the Royal Albert Hall and at Disneyland Paris. It becomes even more surprising when you hear how awful I am at singing.

10. What is your personal philosophy?
"I discovered at a very early age that if I talk long enough, I can make anything right or wrong. So, either I'm god, or truth is relative. Either way, booyah" - Jeffery Winger.

11. Where do you want to travel to?
Anywhere and everywhere.

12. What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My alarm clock and generally unfinished tutorial work.

13. Can you play any instruments?
I actually have a special ability that is a complete lack of any musical talent. I tried to play the flute for a year, and my teacher 10 asked me if I was dyslexic, and wouldn't believe me when I said I wasn't, 2) told me I;d probably like to find another instrument as the flute wasn't for me. Also, when I suggested I might play the triangle I was met with the response "You still need rhythm for that Rachel".

14. What is your least favourite food?
Bananas

15. Which animal would be your sidekick in a detective drama and why?
A dragon. Dragons have been proven to be excellent at solving crimes, though their interrogation methods leave a lot to be desired (think less PACE, more fire).

16. If you could invite 4 people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would they be?
Baroness Hale, Gordon Ramsay, Terry Pratchett, Banksy.

17. Any hidden talents?
I can look at a piece of text and tell you exactly how long it'll take to read out loud. A page and a half of size 11 font is usually around 6 minutes. This is what happens when you spend too long doing public speaking.

18. Best advice anyone has given you?
"Perfection doesn't exist" - Izzy

19. What was the last thing you heard/saw that made you laugh out loud?
Izzy asking Committee to answer these questions, possibly expecting serious answers (sorry!)

20. Do you cook?
I've been forcefully advised that, to protect national health, I shouldn't. I once set butter on fire.

21. What's your favourite recipe?
Izzy's chocolate chip cookies (sometimes she lets me mix them).

22. Have you ever been told you look like a celebrity? Who? Do you agree?
I've often been told that I look like the second coming of Aphrodite. Or it's been said I look like the Poundland discount version of Edgar Allen Poe. I feel like it's definitely somewhere between the two.

23. What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket list”?
Go travelling around Europe.

24. What is your dream job?
Working in the white-collar crime unit of a global law firm.

25. Describe yourself in 3 words.
Amazing sarcastic arsehole.

26. What is your favourite TV show?
Why is this the hardest question? Brooklyn 99.

27. What did you want to be when you grow up? Has that changed now?
As a kid I wanted to be an archaeologist and anthropologist, now I want to be a lawyer. So not much of a difference really.

28. If you had to change uni course, what would you do instead?
Psychology
